Your Funeral is Very Important to Us was a Semi-Finalist in the University of Wisconsin Poetry Series’ Brittingham and Felix Pollak Prize in Poetry competition. It is a collection of poems touching on social and political issues as well as on personal experiences of the author in both his native Bronx and North Carolina. Nationally known award-winning poet John Balaban characterizes the poems as “Wry, rueful, often wise, and sometimes awfully funny.” 

Author Bio:

Allen Stein was born in the Bronx and has taught in the English Department at North Carolina State University since 1968. After many publications in academic presses, he turned in recent years to creative writing. His poems and stories have been published in over thirty journals, among them The Hudson Review, Poet Lore, Willow Springs, Salmagundi, and The South Carolina Review. He is also the author of the novel Gatsby’s Daughters: A Romance of the Last Century. His second poetry collection, Unsettled Subjects, will be published in 2020 by Broadstone Books.

His story “The Final Reflections of Malcolm Melville, His Father’s Son” won Second Prize in The Hudson Review’s 2019 Short Fiction Contest.
